Manchester City went top of the Premier League table with a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side had to come from a goal down to get the better of the Toffees and move level on 80 points with Liverpool.

The Citizens’ superior goal difference means that they are now at the top of the league table and will win the title if they emerge victorious in their final two games of the season.

Meanwhile, Everton’s chances of finishing fourth in the Premier League are now gone, as Roberto Martinez’s team are four points behind Arsenal with just one match to play.

However, it was the hosts who took the lead at the Goodison after just 10 minutes when Ross Barkley found the target with a stunning curling effort from 25 yards.

Sergio Aguero equalised for City midway through the first half from inside the box after being played in by Yaya Toure. However, the Argentine striker had to be substituted just minutes later because of a suspected groin injury.

Edin Dzeko put the Citizens ahead for the first time in the match two minutes before the half-time interval when he planted in a brilliant header after connecting with James Milner’s equally great cross.

Then two minutes into the second period the 28-year-old striker gave the Manchester outfit a two-goal cushion, slotting home a low cross from Samir Nasri.

However, Everton were not going to let go without a fight and gave themselves a lifeline on 64 minutes through Romelu Lukaku, who headed home a Leighton Baines delivery past goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Both sides had chances to add to the scoreline, but it ended 3-2 to City and kept their title hopes very much alive.
