On this day: Remy dream, Cech hopes and Villa targeted

Petr Cech

On the 4th May 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 4th May 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 4th May 2013…

Loic who it is

A year ago today and Arsenal were being linked with a move for Loic Remy. The French international striker was playing for QPR that very day against Arsenal and The Mirror reported that he wanted a ‘dream move’ to The Emirates in the summer.

In the end he left QPR on loan - joining Newcastle United six months after he rejected them in favour of QPR.

But today, one year on to the day, Remy was watching in the stands as Arsenal defeated West Brom at The Emirates Stadium.

Maybe he will get that dream move after all.

Reality Cech

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech was talking about the potential return of Jose Mourinho.

The then Real Madrid boss was being highly tipped to take over at Chelsea once again at the end of the season - and Cech said:

“Not many of our current players have worked with Jose. But I can say that he is one of the best coaches in the world. He is a truly great manager, and if he comes back to Chelsea the fans will be very happy. It would be a pleasure to work with him, both for the players who know him already and those who don't know him yet. I hope that, whatever happens, we will end up with a trophy in our hands and qualify for the Champions League.”

Sorry Petr but no trophy this season.

After a draw against Norwich City today it looks like the title really is finally out of their hands.

Rodgers wants a Spanish Villa

Liverpool were being linked with David Villa. The Spanish international striker was all set to leave Barcelona after falling down the pecking order at the Nou Camp.

But he was just one of many top targets to slip through their fingers in the summer - as he joined Champions League finalists Atletico Madrid.

However Liverpool have not really missed him.

Should Arsenal move for Remy?
