Sunday rumour mill: Chelsea young star wanted by Man City

Christensen Nextgen

The Mirror states that Manuel Pellegrini’s men are ready to swoop for Blues defender Andreas Christensen.

Despite John Terry ageing and out of contract in the summer, Chelsea look well-equipped at centre-half ahead of next term.

With Gary Cahill and David Luiz in the first-team squad, Kurt Zouma set to join and Tomas Kalas impressing on his Blues debut against Liverpool, Jose Mourinho has a number of excellent options in the heart of his defence.

One man that has not been given a chance to impress is young Danish defender Andreas Christensen, who is yet to make his senior debut for the west London club.

The 18-year-old’s father has recently admitted that the teenager may well leave the club in the summer due to a lack of opportunities.

A report in The Mirror today states that Manchester City have identified the Scandinavian as a potential summer addition and will look to snatch the promising player from their Premier League rivals.

Christensen has been impressive for Chelsea’s under-21 side of late but has a number of experienced players ahead of him in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

City’s partner for Vincent Kompany in their defence is usually Martin Demichelis, but with Joleon Lescott set to leave the club in the summer the Etihad Stadium side are expected to sign a new defender.

Would a move to City make sense for Christensen?
