Manchester City star defiant

Yaya Touré interview

Yaya Toure insists that Manchester City will win the Premier League title on Sunday.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has said that he and his teammates “expect” to win the Premier League title on Sunday.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side will head into the final day of the 2013-14 season with a two-point advantage over second-placed Liverpool.

The Citizens are currently at the top of the league table with 83 points from 37 matches, while Brendan Rodgers’ side are on 81.

A draw for City against West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium will be enough for them to clinch in their second championship title in three years, provided Liverpool do not get the better of Newcastle United at Anfield by a massive margin.

Back in 2012 when City won the title for the first time in the Premier League era, they had to do so with virtually the last kick of their final match. This time it should be more straightforward, and Toure admits that he expects it to be so, although he warns against complacency.

‘We definitely expect to win the title’, Sky Sports quotes the Ivory Coast international as saying. ‘We have worked so hard this season and if we don't win it, it would be a massive disappointment.

‘We need to see the job through, but we have to be careful. Our game against QPR in 2012 was unbelievable. We were dying and [Sergio] Aguero saved us right at the end. We don't want to live through something like that again!’

West Ham have nothing but pride to play for, and on paper it looks pretty straightforward for City. However, this season’s title race has seen loads of twists and turns, and there could be a final sting in the tail on Sunday.
