Liverpool morning news, midfielder may have to tell club to force early move to Anfield, ex-Red linked

Adam Lallana

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Wednesday morning.

Adam Lallana may have to put in some sort of transfer request if he wants to force his move from Southampton to Liverpool through before the World Cup according to The Guardian.

It is believed the Reds have bid £20m for the 26-year-old midfielder but the Saints are holding out for £25m.

The report also quotes Brendan Rodgers saying that quality rather than quantity is the key in this summer’s transfer window.

The Liverpool boss said: “It’s about the quality. We can’t be going into the Champions League this year with doubts about players. We have to be going in knowing what they players’ capacity to play is and their capabilities.”

Another report that was banded about yesterday was a possible return of Javier Mascherano to the club from the Daily Mirror, after he hinted at leaving the Barcelona in the summer.

Mascherano, who left Anfield in 2010, could be available for as little as £9m according to the report.

Away from transfers, Brendan Rodgers has tipped 19-year-old Raheem Sterling to shine for England at the World Cup in Brazil.

Sterling has only made two senior appearances for England but had a terrific second half to the season, and ended up being a key figure in Liverpool’s improbable title challenge.

Rodgers said: “His best games have been against the best teams – Arsenal, [Manchester] United and Manchester City – so he is more than capable.

“If he continues to have that confidence to play with no fear he could be a really stand-out player. But that is the key – he must be asked to play that way.”

Liverpool are in action against Shamrock Rovers in a friendly at the in Dublin this evening with a couple of younger players expected to get a run out.

One of those is young striker Jack Dunn, and told the Liverpool Echo he received advice from former Reds’ striker Michael Owen when he turned up at Melwood for a training session.

Dunn said: “I ended up picking his brains to be honest.

“He was really good with me to be fair to him. He was hands-on, and getting involved in the session too. That’s great for the lads to have someone like that around, even if it was just once.”

Do you think Liverpool will make any signings before the World Cup gets underway?
