Fjortoft gives opinion on Liverpool transfer prospect: it's not good

Bay Arena - Bayer Leverkusen

The Bundesliga expert had reservations as to what the Reds' German transfer target would bring to the club.

Former Norway international footballer Jan Age Fjortoft has forged a decent reputation as a journalist and football pundit since retiring from the game in 2002.

Having worked in Norwegian media earlier on in his new career, he has been keeping a close eye on German football since 2011, representing Sky Germany and covering the Bundesliga having played for Eintracht Frankfurt at the tail end of his playing days.

Fjortoft is often happy to shed light on Scandinavian and German footballers linked with a move to England, and today he was more than happy to touch on Bayer Leverkusen's young footballer Emre Can, whose name has been associated with Liverpool in many morning papers.

Unfortunately for Reds fans, the former Swindon Town striker was less than complimentary in what he felt the former Bayern Munich youngster could bring to the Anfield club, though in all fairness he did restrict his comments to just a few words.

Responding to a question on Twitter as to whether he has any news on Can joining Liverpool, the Norwegian replied he couldn't "see him doing Liverpool better."

It seemed to indicate a belief that the player wouldn't bring much to Brendan Rodgers' side.

German midfielder Can had been linked with a £10 million plus move to Anfield as part of Rodgers' plan to turn the Premier League runners up into champions next year.

The 20-year-old's first season of regular Bundesliga action came since his switch to Leverkusen from Bayern's second string last summer, and left him with 39 appearances and four goals.

Can, who is eligible to play for both Germany and Turkey, is still young, so if he is to make the move to Liverpool he will have plenty of time to prove Fjortoft and any other doubters wrong.

Would Emre Can be a good signing for Liverpool?
