Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho appears to be a very busy man in the transfer market.
Jose Mourinho is reportedly lining up a deal to re-sign Tiago from Atletico Madrid, which will both aid and go alongside any deal for Atletico striker Diego Costa.
However, the Portuguese coach isn’t finished there and will look to add more players to his squad in the transfer market, after ripping the heart out of Diego Simeone’s team.
“Mourinho is looking to add at least three more players to his side with another striker and two defenders key,” reports the Daily Mail.
Another striker makes sense considering how critical Mourinho was of his attacking options up front last season.
He frequently rotated the trio of Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba, apparently unsure over the best combination of attacking players to use at key times during the season.
He may also have one eye on the current hamstring injury to Costa, which threatens to rule the Spanish international out of the World Cup.
Hamstring injuries are one of the most common and most troublesome in football and the Portuguese coach will need a good back up option if he signs Costa, before a repeat of that problem near the start of next season.
The defenders the Mail mentions are likely to be full-backs to play down either side of the defence.
Ashley Cole is leaving, which means Mourinho is short of a top class left-back although Patrick van Aanholt and Ryan Bertrand are returning to the club after loan spells.
He will also covet a right-back which will give him more versatility in terms of how he uses Branislav Ivanovic.
Ivanovic was superb down the right last season, but Mourinho may want the luxury of being able to use Ivanovic in the centre of his defence, with a quicker right-back out wide.
Centre-back is well covered with Gary Cahill and John Terry forming a strong partnership last season. Ivanovic provides experience while Mourinho also has the youthful options of Tomas Kalas and Kurt Zouma to fall back on.
It’s shaping up to be a very busy summer in terms of transfers at Stamford Bridge.
