Juan Mata sends message after making Spain's 23-man squad

Fifa World Cup Brazil

Manchester United play-maker Juan Mata has reacted to the news that he will be in Spain's 23-man squad for the World Cup this summer.

Manchester United's club-record signing Juan Mata has reacted following the news that he has been included in Spain's 23-man World Cup squad.

Coach Vicente del Bosque had some tough choices to make given the strength of the reigning world champions, but despite reports suggesting Mata would be omitted, the £37.1million signing will be on the plane to Brazil.

He joins his United teammate and close friend David de Gea in the squad, and shortly after the announcement, Mata took to Twitter to reveal his joy at the news.

'Couldn't be happier!' he wrote.  'Very proud to be in the squad!  Let's try to make history again!'

Mata's domestic campaign was one of ups and downs, with the first half of a frustrating season spent predominantly on the Chelsea bench before he completed his January move to United.

Despite failing to inspire his new team to a top-four finish, Mata enjoyed a fine spell at Old Trafford and his goals, assists and all-round performances suggested better things were to come next season.

But for now he will be fully focused on the World Cup, and hoping he can bring home another winner's medal come July.

What do you expect of Juan Mata at this summer's World Cup?
