Bobby Charlton wonders if Cristiano Ronaldo will return to United

Manchester United ambassador would love the return of one of the club's greatest number 7's, currently plying his trade at Real Madrid.

1966 Ballon d'Or and World Cup winner Bobby Charlton, a majestic midfielder for both Manchester United and England who now occupies a position on the board, has talked-up the powerful attacking instincts of former player and current Real Madrid legend-in-the-making Cristiano Ronaldo, 29.

At Manchester United, Ronaldo arrived as a lanky and awkward youngster but left the archetypal Premier League athlete - electric-paced, finely-balanced, powerfully-built and with an excellent work-rate. At Real Madrid, he has continued to develop, honing in more on his goal-scoring ability which is so good he is already fourth in the list of combined goals for the club, behind Raul, Alfredo di Stefano and Carlos Santillana.

In total, Ronaldo has netted 252 times from 246 games, yet his positional variety, his dribbling nous and aerial dominance have all contributed to his near endless accolades - and now Charlton has added to them, lamenting that England has not for a long time produced a player of his calibre.

"Ronaldo is a sensational player and I am really envious when I see his talent and we don't ever seem to match that quality," Charlton, 76, told Laureus.

He then went on to mention that he wonders whether the player would ever be tempted to return to his old stomping ground, where he won the first of his two Champions League titles.
