Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith believes Mario Mandzukic would be a good signing for Arsene Wenger’s side.
The Croatian international’s time at Bayern Munich is rumoured to be coming to an end, with Robert Lewandowski heading to the Allianz Arena this summer. But such a prolific front-man is unlikely to be lacking in potential suitors.
Mandzukic scored 26 goals for Bayern last season, and he set up a further 10. At 28, he is also experienced enough to step straight into a side like Arsenal but young enough to have an impact for years to come.
In an interview with Talk Sport, Smith said, “Wenger will be bringing in a striker this summer, hopefully a very good one. There are a few out there at the moment. Just look at the likes of Mandzukic.”
Smith was talking about the reports linking Mario Balotelli with a switch to the Emirates. But the ex-Gunner believes the Bayern star is a far better option than the Italian international.
Arsenal are just a few quality signings away from becoming a dominant force both in England and in Europe. And with Mandzukic almost certain to leave Germany this summer, Wenger would be wise to make a move.
There will not be many quality front-men available this summer, but there are few top clubs who need one more than Arsenal.
What would Mandzukic bring to this Arsenal side? Is he the player they need?
