The Artemis Network is a newly formed employability and career development forum for women between 16 and 21 years old.
Formed by a former City Head of Graduate Recruitment and business owner in the City, the aim is to provide a UK-wide age-appropriate network for young women, that is unintimidating and fun to be part of.
The goal is to engage with young women in their final years of school study (primarily years 12 and 13) at 500 high performing target schools across the country. The Network works directly with the schools – which are a diverse mix of state, free, academy and private institutions - to develop their students’ employability, confidence and networking skills and to educate them about the myriad career opportunities that exist within the world of business and financial services – areas that many are unlikely to have considered.
The timing of the Artemis initiative is key –long-term change of corporate culture in the financial sector is being addressed by all its participants. Not only overhauling the compensation structures that reward risk-taking, implementing strong and responsible governance but also working within education, supporting young people and their employability - and recruiting a more diverse workforce in terms of gender, socio economic background and outlook.
The Network's broad outreach programme to 500 schools across the UK will ensure that Artemis is cultivating a socially diverse and multi-cultural female talent pool – who may otherwise never have access or aspirations to careers in business and finance.
The Network's first event will be held in Durham on the 26th June when 6th formers from 5 top performing state schools in the North East will attend an employability, careers advice and networking session at the Durham Johnston School, run by Artemis staff and young women from City organisations.
We are looking for young women who are already working in the City to join our efforts. If you are interested in contributing to our network as a mentor, coach or event participant – please contact Viv@theartemisnetwork.com.
