We bring you all the latest news involving the North East based clubs that has broken in the last 24 hours.

1) Sunderland appear to mock Newcastle on Twitter

Sunderland’s official Twitter account appeared to mock Newcastle United after their signing of Jack Colback.

Colback completed a controversial move to Newcastle yesterday and Sunderland did little to calm the mood between the two sets of supporters with their official tweet announcing the move.

They carefully selected which pictures to use with the announcement, showing Colback celebrating scoring in their 3-0 victory over the Magpies last season.

The tweet, which has since been deleted, can be seen below:

2) Jack Colback admits Sunderland fans will hate him

Jack Colback has spoken out after his move to Newcastle United and admits that Sunderland fans are likely to hate him for his decision to leave the club for their bitter rivals.

Colback had come through Sunderland’s academy-system, but was a boyhood supporter of Newcastle and has now completed his dream move to St James’ Park, aggravating the Black Cats’ fans.

"The majority of Sunderland fans will hate me for the rest of my life," Colback told BBC Newcastle.

"I thank them for their support when I was there and Sunderland for the chance to play in the Premier League."

3) No deal between Rotherham and Newcastle for former loan duo

The futures of James Tavernier and Haris Vuckic at Newcastle United are still undecided, with Rotherham United looking to bring them back to Yorkshire.

The Millers had the pair on loan last season and they impressed during their stint at the club. And, following their promotion to the Championship, Rotherham are now hoping to bring the duo back to the New York Stadium.

Reports yesterday suggested that a £500,000 deal had already been agreed between the two clubs for the pair, but Newcastle have refuted those claims.

4) Sunderland given hope in Ashley Williams chase

Sunderland target Ashley Williams could leave Swansea on a free transfer according to his agent.

Williams is in his final year of his contract at Swansea and Gus Poyet’s side have already tried to capitalise on this situation by making a £4 million bid for the centre-back.

That bid was rejected by Swansea, with the Welsh club still hoping that Williams will sign an extension to his deal, but his agent has confirmed the possibility that he could allow his remaining deal to expire – leaving him free to join Sunderland for no fee at the end of the season.

"Ash has only got one year left on his contract, so clubs will look at that," Moralee told BBC Wales Sport.

"If a new contract is not agreed or they don't accept one of the bids, Swansea could risk losing him for nothing.

"A bid has been made but nothing's been accepted or rejected yet - something has got to give.

5) Albert Adomah confident ahead of World Cup

Middlesbrough star Albert Adomah is remaining optimistic, despite his nation, Ghana’s, tough draw at the World Cup.

Ghana have been drawn in the same group as Portugal, Germany and USA in Brazil, meaning many feel their chances of qualification are limited, but the fleet-footed winger refuses to be daunted by the task.

He told the Gazette: “People are saying it is the ‘Group of Death’ but I don’t see it like that,” he told the Gazette.

“Yes, it is a tough group, and to be honest it is not the group you would pick for yourself.

“But they are all tough groups. It is not like we are in with Brazil and Argentina.”

Will Colback be a good signing for Newcastle? Can Ghana qualify from their group?
