He has live long and prospered.

A cake in honour of Billy Salomon’s 100th birthday came out before the rack of lamb was served in the ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria Tuesday night.

'I’m sorry we had to do this sort of ass-backwards - that’s the way it is in this world', the former Managing Partner of Salomon Brothers said.

Bloomberg News reports that on the occasion of being honoured at a gala for the Hospital for Special Surgery, Salomon, who wore a tuxedo, rose boutonniere and plastic watch, gave $10,000 for each year of his life so far, or $1m, boosting the amount of money raised to $3.6m.

In the room: Alan Greenberg, John Whitehead, Elihu Rose and Brian Williams, who was emcee.
