VIDEO: Liverpool target scores France's third against Switzerland

Arsenal V Marseille Valbuena

Reported Liverpool target Mathieu Valbuena converted a fine counterattacking move to put France 3-0 up against Switzerland at the World Cup.

The Frenchman enjoyed a fine start to this summer's tournament in Brazil, completing more final-third passes than anyone else so far as Les Bleus beat Honduras 3-0.

This time, however, France were 3-0 up before the half-time whistle was even blown, with Valbuena latching onto a fine Olivier Giroud cross for their third goal.

Arsenal forward Giroud had opened the scoring against the Swiss, before Blaise Matuidi doubled the lead just 13 seconds after the restart.

Karim Benzema then missed a penalty for the French, before Yohan Cabaye hit the bar with a volley on the rebound.

But France soon had their third - Giroud stormed down the left during a superb counterattack, and Valbuena showed great pace and positioning to convert.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, with another Reds target Xherdan Shaqiri coming up directly against him for Switzerland.

Bayern Munich man Shaqiri had less luck during the first half, however, with the Swiss finding it difficult to break a terrific France side down.

A fine tournament continues for the French - and Valbuena.
