Report top CEO falls asleep, said late to meeting

Woman Yawning

Yawn.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer arrived nearly two hours late to a dinner with marketers last Tuesday evening, during the Cannes advertising festival, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

The reason? The executive told some attendees she had fallen asleep, people familiar with the matter told the Journal.

Mayer was so late to the private dinner Interpublic Group had arranged that its CEO Michael Roth and other attendees left before she arrived, the sources told the Journal.

A Yahoo spokeswoman did not immediately return the paper's request for comment.

To improve Yahoo's performance, Mayer must establish better relationships with marketers, a responsibility she has assumed after she fired her chief operating officer Henrique de Castro several months ago.

'If it were an investor meeting, a board meeting or a potential acquisition, I am sure she or someone from her team would have woken her up', said one top executive in attendance. 'It is another instance where she demonstrated that she doesn’t understand the value of clients, ad revenue or agencies', a source told the newspaper.
