Manchester United defender says signing the Southampton left-back is a 'no-brainer'.

Manchester United are on the verge of completing their second signing in 24 hours, Southampton's Luke Shaw.

The defender is a priority for the Red Devils, seen as a player who can be the club's left-back for the next decade.

One outgoing defender at the club, Rio Ferdinand, believes the deal is a fantastic one for United, using his Twitter feed to give his view.

SkySports reported this evening that United have agreed a £30 million fee for the England international, with the teenager said to be ready to undergo a medical imminently.

Earlier in the day the club sealed the signing of Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao to get their transfer business underway.

The club are also linked with midfielder Arturo Vidal of Juventus, with new manager Louis van Gaal a confirmed admirer by his own admission. Ferdinand himself has completed a free transfer to newly promoted QPR.
