Four Liverpool players who could leave now the transfer window is open

Anfield Kop

Liverpool look like having a busy summer, but who could they move on to make way for the new arrivals?

Liverpool have already acted swiftly this summer to secure the signings of Liverpool pair Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana, along with Bayer Leverkusen’s Emre Can. But with more players tipped to arrive, who could be leaving Anfield this summer.

Here we take a look at four players who could well have played their last match for the Reds, and no, Luis Suarez is not one of them:

Kolo Toure

Kole Toure may have only arrived at Anfield last summer, but a series of high profile errors have seen the Ivory Coast international come in for plenty of criticism. The 33-year-old only has one year left on his current deal but given the need for Liverpool to be defensively stable next season it would not be a surprise if Toure moved on.

He still has plenty to offer certain clubs, but will Brendan Rodgers really continue to put his faith in a player who too often last season made the mistake that cost a goal – in a campaign when every single one proved vital?

Joe Allen

The arrivals of Can and Lallana mean extra competition in midfield areas, and of all the central players at Rodgers’ disposal Joe Allen could be at most risk of being moved on.

The Liverpool manager clearly rates Allen and knows him well from their time together at Swansea City. But even with the number of games the Reds will be involved in next season, Allen may not get the game-time he feels he deserves. The question is, will Rodgers be prepared to cash-in?

Sebastian Coates

Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates has already admitted that his situation at Liverpool is “complicated” and even with questions over some of the Reds’ central defenders it is hard to see the 23-year-old making a breakthrough at the club.

Now back from a loan spell in his homeland, it seems highly likely that Coates will be moved on permanently this summer if a buyer can be found. With two years left on his current deal, now could be the perfect time for Rodgers to get a reasonable fee for the player.

Glen Johnson

Jon Flanagan proved last season that he is Liverpool’s right-back of the future, and despite his ability to operate on the opposite flank it is likely he will see that particular position taken by a left-back by trade. Should that happen – and following Rodgers’ claims that Martin Kelly will be given chances next season – Glen Johnson could be on his way.

The England international has previously indicated that he wants to stay at the club. But with a contract that expires in exactly a year and no new deal forthcoming, the 29-year-old could be moved on.

Who do you think will be leaving Anfield this summer?
