Everton Goodison 3

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from Goodison Park...

Everton's coaching staff has taken a hit this summer, with academy manager Alan Irvine moving on to take the manager's job at West Bromwich Albion, whilst Under-21 manager Alan Stubbs also left to take over at Hibernian. The former Toffees defender was well respected having had a long association with the club, and Everton forward Steven Naismith has backed him to succeed in Scotland.

"[He had] an eagerness to get into management. I spoke to him a few times last season and he definitely felt he was ready to be a manager. In his interview he touched on the managers he worked under, and it's a great CV to have working under these guys who have got such contrasting styles. It'll be a tough job for him, but it's his first job and he'll have been thinking for years on how he would run his first job."

Left back Bryan Oviedo suffered a season ending broken leg injury in January against Stevenage, meaning the Costa Rican had to miss out on his side's amazing World Cup journey. Now with pre-season set to begin, Oviedo is attempting to step up his recovery, posting an update on Instagram for Everton fans.

Oviedo, 24, arrived from Copenhagen in 2012 and had featured under Roberto Martinez as a backup to Leighton Baines, making a name for himself after scoring the winning goal in the 1-0 away win over Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Toffees will now hope that Oviedo can continue that form after his return.

Everton will be looking to add Gareth Barry to their squad once again after the Manchester City man became a free agent, but with a deal stalling, Martinez will now look to find alternatives to the experienced England international. One of the names repeatedly linked with the club has been Manchester United's Tom Cleverley, who impressed under Martinez during their time together at Wigan Athletic. The 24-year-old has often been a scapegoat at Old Trafford, and has now been pushed further down the pecking order by the arrival of Ander Herrera - all improving Everton's chances of landing Cleverley this summer.
