Bob Diamond joins twitter

Bob Diamond At Davos

Bob Diamond, one of the best known bankers on both sides of the Atlantic, has taken the unusual step of joining Twitter.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Mr Diamond, the former chief executive of Barclays, has quietly become a member of the micro-blogging website with the handle @rediamondjr.

To date, he has yet to tweet, but is following three people, including his daughter, Nell.

She hit the headlines shortly after her father left Barclays in the summer of 2012, when she tweeted an x-rated rant aimed at George Osborne, the Chancellor, and Ed Miliband, the Labour leader, whom she blamed for her father's ousting from the bank.

Mr Diamond was forced to resign from Barclays after the British bank was handed £290m of fines from US and UK regulators for its part in the Libor fixing scandal.
