Bank of America’s Merrill Lynch has appointed Akihiko Manaka to lead its mergers and acquisitions advisory business in Japan.

Bloomberg News reports that Manaka, 39, became the head of M&A at Merrill Lynch Japan on July 7, Tsukasa Noda, a Tokyo-based spokesman, said by phone. He joined Merrill Lynch as a mergers advisory banker in 2006.

In the meantime, Bloomberg also reports that Guyett will succeed Therese Esperdy, who is returning to the U.S. to become global chairman of the financial institutions group, according to a memo obtained by Bloomberg News and confirmed by the bank.

The changes come after a management shuffle in China in the wake of a probe by U.S. regulators into JPMorgan’s Asian hiring practices.
