Spanish goalkeeper linked to Arsenal commits future to Espanyol

Espanyol

Arsenal have been linked with interest in Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla but the stopper now insists he will not be moving this summer.

27-year-old Espanyol stopper Kiko Casilla has been linked with interest from Arsenal and his former boyhood club Real Madrid.

The Gunners are in the market for a replacement for Lukasz Fabianksi who left the Emirates after six years to sign for Swansea on a free transfer. The North Londoners are hopeful of bringing in a backup goalkeeper who can challenge Wojceich Szczesny for the No.1 spot at the club.

Casilla has now ruled out a move, insisting he is intent on remaining with Espanyol for whom he signed in 2007 as a youth player after leaving Real Madrid B aged 19.

"This summer I will not leave. My first intention is to complete this year that I have left [on my contract] and then to continue for more years. If I leave, I am not going to leave for free. But I do not want to leave," he told AS.

Casilla’s contract with Espanyol entered its final 12 months last month but the Spaniard appears to have hopes of staying on at the La Liga side for which he has made 78 first team appearances after completing two loan spells at Cadiz and Cartagena.

Arsenal are also linked with Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina in a potential £3 million with French outfit Nice whilst Real Madrid are expected to sign Costa Rica international Keylor Navas who impressed for his country this summer at the World Cup in Brazil.
