A round-up of all the football stories hitting the headlines in the Welsh press, as QPR are set to use Rio Ferdinand to help push through their key transfer target.
1) QPR could use Ferdinand as bait for Caulker move
Caulker has also been linked with moves to Crystal Palace and Arsenal, but Ranger’s boss Harry Redknapp hopes that the confirmation of Rio Ferdinand can boost Caulker’s desire to choose Loftus Road.
“Hopefully we can move things along with Caulker and we can have talks later this week,” Redknapp is quoted as saying in the Telegraph.
“The prospect of playing with Rio Ferdinand in the centre of defence is something that will appeal to the lad. He’s a young player and he can only improve playing alongside somebody as experienced as Rio."
2) Real Madrid give Bale birthday gift
Real Madrid have seemingly learned from Manchester City’s mistakes in how to treat your star players on their birthday.
The club presented record-signing Gareth Bale with a cake as he celebrated his 25th birthday. Bale is the figurehead of the Real Madrid training camp at present, as he waits for the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema to return to raining following their World Cup campaigns.
3) Swans set to sign Montero
The 24-year-old appeared in all of Ecuador’s World Cup group games this summer, seemingly doing enough to catch the eye of Swans boss Garry Monk.
Jefferson has had previous spells at Villarreal and Levante, and is set to be the subject of a £4million bid from the Welsh club.
4) Inter chief’s fly in for Medel talks
Medel has been constantly linked with a move away from the Welsh capital, with Inter not yet deciding whether to take the midfielder on a permanent or loan deal.
The Italian giants have supposedly offered €7million for Medel, with Cardiff thought to be holding out for closer to £9million, the fee they paid for him last summer.
5) Michu to link up with Napoli
Swansea want-away Michu could finally link up with his Napoli team-mates later today, as the clubs are set to agree a €1.75million loan fee for the Spaniard, say Wales Online.
Negotiations have dragged on for months as the Italian side have pondered a deal to bring the striker in on a permanent deal, but will now wait until after the loan spell to decide.
Will Ferdinand attract Caulker to QPR? Would Jefferson Montero be a hit at Swansea?
