Arsenal and Tottenham have hope in pursuit of €7m World Cup star

Arsenal V Marseille Valbuena

Mathieu Valbuena’s agent has moved to reject claims the midfielder is moving to Dynamo Moscow – meaning a Premier League transfer could yet be on.

Arsenal and Tottenham have been given fresh hope in their potential pursuit of Olympique Marseille midfielder Mathieu Valbuena after the player’s agent rejected reports suggesting he had signed for a Russian Premier League club.

According to an article published in L’Equipe, the 29-year-old had put pen to paper on a deal that would see him move to Dynamo Moscow for €7 million.

But in the wake of those reports Valbuena’s agent Jean-Pierre Bernes has moved to dismiss such claims as “bulls***” according to quotes carried by Marseille news site Le Phoceen.

This latest development grants fresh hope to the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, the two clubs that were believed to be leading the way when it came to bidding for the France national team star.

The north London pair are not alone in their admiration of the winger either with West Ham United and Liverpool both previously linked with moves for the midfielder.

Spurs are in desperate need of a winger with Valbuena the ideal addition to help get the best out of Roberto Soldado – a striker who relies on effective wide-play for many of his goals.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are thought to be keen on bolstering their squad ahead of another season in which they will look to compete both domestically and in Europe.

Previous campaigns have been seemingly undone by a series of injuries to key players and with Arsene Wenger thought to be a keen admirer of the wide-man, a deal could yet be in the offing.

Liverpool could also renew their interest in the wake of these latest quotes, with the Reds already moving to bring in one Les Bleus World Cup star in the form of Loic Remy.

The Queens Park Rangers striker is thought to be closing in on an £8.5 million move to Anfield and could be joined by Valbuena, should Spurs and Arsenal fail to secure a deal for the Frenchman.
