Having joined West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan stint, Andre Wisdom is hoping to use his spell at the Hawthorns to prepare for a future role in the Liverpool first-team.

Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom is hoping to use his season-long loan spell at West Bromwich Albion as a learning experience, as he prepares to adjust to regular Premier League football.

The 21-year-old spent the majority of the previous campaign on loan at Derby County, where he was a regular in the side which made it to the Championship play-off final, falling 1-0 to Queens Park Rangers.

Now looking to make another step up with West Brom, Wisdom believes his spell at the Hawthorns will stand him in good stead for making the grade with Liverpool, as he looks to prove to manager Brendan Rodgers that he should feature in his future plans.

‘I’m happy to be here and gain some experience,’ he told OfficialAlbion. ‘I’m eager to get playing games and improve my performances, and hopefully that can push the team on and keep me progressing.

‘I thank Derby a lot for the experience I had and the opportunities they gave me but I definitely feel I need to test myself in the Premier League and West Brom is great club to come to try and learn.

‘Brendan Rodgers passes on all his experiences and tries to guide me in the right way and I think it’s good that I’ve come to club like this.’

Having signed for Liverpool at 14 from Bradford City, Wisdom has played most of his youth career at centre-back but, after spending time at right-back with both the Reds first-team and Derby, believes he is now just as comfortable at either position.

‘I wouldn’t say I have a particular preference,’ he said. ‘I’ve played a lot of my football at centre-back in the reserves but breaking into the first-team at Liverpool and with Derby I’ve mostly been at full-back.’

Making his Liverpool debut during the 2012-13 campaign, Wisdom has played 22 games for the first-team since, but how he performs over this coming season could well be crucial towards determining whether he has a future at Anfield.

Signing a new long-term contract in January last year, the England under-21 captain possesses obvious potential but, with the club continuing to strengthen their squad as they look to challenge on all fronts in 2014-15, competition for places could well be fierce by the time he returns next season.

However, if Wisdom impresses enough at West Brom then it will certainly prove tough for the Liverpool hierarchy to ignore his credentials, though whether they are top four quality remains to be seen.
