Manchester United prospect Nick Powell is hoping to make his mark for the club in pre-season.
The 20-year-old scored 14 goals for Wigan Athletic on loan last season, including three in the Europa League.
He was originally left out of United's pre-season tour of America due to injury, but he has received positive news.
The Guardian report: "Nick Powell is due to join the United squad on their summer tour of the US over the next 72 hours after recovering from a minor injury.
"Powell, an attacking midfielder, is expected to be available for the second tour game, against Roma in Denver."
It was two summers ago that Powell joined United from Crewe after impressing in League Two. After struggling for game time in his debut season, despite scoring in his first game, he was loaned out to Wigan in 2013/14.
His success there indicates he is ready for the next challenge in the Premier League, but whether that will be at United or out on loan again may depend on the coming weeks.
Van Gaal is renowned for working with young players and Powell will hope he gets a good chance to show what he can do.
His position is however a congested one, with Rooney, Mata, and Kagawa all capable of playing in his role, while Jesse Lingard is also in the same boat.
Can Nick Powell make an impact at United this season?
