Arsenal fans excited about Diaby's return: Better than Yaya on his day

Abou Diaby 2

Abou Diaby is in Gunners squad for their New York trip and fans believe Wenger may he can emulate Manchester City star.

Abou Diaby was one of 20 names on the list of senior-level Arsenal stars who have flown out to USA in order to train State-side, challenge New York Red Bulls and engage in promotional and commercial activities.

The squad tasked with taking on Thierry Henry's latest club lacks a number of star names - like Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey and defensive duo Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny - however, there are still a number of athletes who will be desperate to prove a point.

Damien Martinez, Hector Bellerin, Isaac Hayden, Ignasi Miquel, Kristoffer Olsen, Jon Toral, Gedion Zelalem and Chuba Akpom will all be eager to demonstrate to Arsene Wenger that they are able to make the transition from youth and reserve level to a place on one of the cup teams (League Cup or FA Cup) in the coming season.

While midfield veterans such as Mikel Arteta, Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky will be desperate to show the boss that he should go with experience rather than youth in order to oversee threats made by other big teams in the Premier League.

However, out of them all, it is the now fit Abou Diaby who perhaps has the most to prove.

Should Diaby remain injury-free, then Wenger must surely be tempted to field him next to either a: Mathieu Flamini or b: Aaron Ramsey in the heart of his midfield - and Gunners fans believe that should the Frenchman recapture his prior form, then he could give Manchester City powerhouse Yaya Toure a run for his money as the best midfielder in the division.
