Chelsea striker hopeful Patrick Bamford says he is trying to learn from Diego Costa.

Chelsea youngster Patrick Bamford says he is aiming to benefit from having Diego Costa around him.

The pair are part of the club's strike force on pre-season, with Fernando Torres and Dominic Solanke also present, with Romelu Lukaku still on holiday.

Whether Bamford will remain or land up being loaned out again is yet to be decided, but the 20-year-old Englishman is determined to cherish the tour now regardless.

He told Chelsea's website: "Obviously there are certain things other players can do that I can’t, because of the difference in style and body shape, but I’m always trying to learn.

"For example, I’ve been watching the way they play with their back to goal, Diego is so strong and looks really good, so hopefully I can take something from what I’ve seen in training."

Bamford scored in Chelsea's opening pre-season game against Wycombe last week, and was handed a start last night against RZ Pellets in Austria, although was unable to score during his 60 minutes on the field in the 1-1 draw.

Chelsea assistant Steve Holland said earlier this week of the youngster: "What we will be looking at in the next few weeks is whether he can adapt other areas of his game and how he combines with top-level midfielders to see if he can make the step not just into the Premier League but into a Champions League team as well."

Failing to score last night will have been a disappointment to a striker desperate to make an impact, but there will be more opportunities for last season's MK Dons and Derby County loanee.

Training alongside last season's La Liga top scorer and showing a willingness to pick up subtle tips and learn from Costa, will only help his cause, wherever he plays this coming year.

Will the top stars Chelsea have bought be of benefit to their youngsters, or hamper their progress?
