Which of these two Real Madrid stars do Liverpool need more?

Karim Benzema France

Liverpool linked with two Real Madrid stars this week but which of the two would be a better fit for the Reds?

According to reports, Liverpool are interested in two of Real Madrid’s attackers in striker Karim Benzema and attacking midfield player Isco.

The latter, Spain international Isco is also linked with interest from Manchester City, as the arrival of Colombia star James Rodriguez could force the 22-year-old out just 12 months after he arrived at the Bernabeu.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail suggests France international Benzema is also up for grabs as the European champions look to launch a ‘fire sale’ of up to four players.

Having just sold Luis Suarez to the Los Blancos bitter rivals Barcelona for £75 million, one would suspect a striker may be on manager Brendan Rodgers’ agenda in the months remaining of the transfer window but the Uruguayan’s creativity could be something the boss is more keen to replace.

With Daniel Sturridge achieving a tally of 24 goals in all competitions last term for the Merseyside giants and Suarez often playing alongside, behind or wide of the England striker, Isco could be just the player to fill the void. The arrival of Rickie Lambert, who scored 14 goals last term for Southampton could also impact on the manager’s targets following Suarez’ departure from Anfield.

Isco has been hailed the ‘next Cesc Fabregas’ in Spain for his technical gifts and vision but the Real Madrid star is also a confident and capable dribbler, with the ability to make driving runs that make his team more dynamic in attacking phases, in a similar way to the departed Uruguayan.

However, Benzema is the more experienced and proven at the top level. The 26-year-old is entering the peak years of a striker’s career and his 24 goals for Real Madrid last term and his superb performance up front for France at the World Cup this summer show just how dangerous the front man can be.

Benzema is also a player capable of playing a deep-forward role to receive the ball and contribute to creative play in the final third. As well as his goals, the Frenchman added 15 assists last term in all competitions.

Benzema is undoubtedly the closer of the two in present capability to Suarez and is closer in style to Liverpool target Alexis Sanchez who had been a suggested replacement, whilst Isco would potentially block the development of Philippe Coutinho at Anfield.
