Why Theo Walcott won't be joining Arsenal on their USA tour

One of Arsenal's key players won't link up with the squad for their State-side pre-season preparations.

Game-changing forward Theo Walcott will be a notable absentee from Arsenal's pre-season tour of USA, where the club will aim to break new ground with a nation fast becoming enamoured with the sport while also participating in friendly matches - like a July 26 showdown with New York Red Bulls, where Thierry Henry is expected to line-up against the club and manager responsible for creating his legend.

Arsene Wenger is expected to reveal his squad for the trans-Atlantic trip later this morning, with England internationals Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both likely to feature (despite the latter's rehabiliation from a knee injury) and Santi Cazorla also believed to be on the list.

According to reports, though, Walcott will not fly out as he will continue to train lightly in England after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in a fiery North London derby involving Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup earlier this year.

Walcott is expected to be able to begin full training next month so could begin first-team duty in September.

After Arsenal's clash with New York Red Bulls at the weekend, the team return to London in order to compete in the Emirates Cup against Benfica on Saturday, August 2 and then AS Monaco the next day.

Yesterday, Wilshere mentioned that he is "looking forward to going back to this amazing city tomorrow" and posted a picture of New York on his social media channel.
