United might have finally found the talismanic midfielder they desperately need judging by Herrera's performance last night.
The £30 million signing from Athletic Bilbao put on a majestic display in United's 7-0 friendly win over LA Galaxy last night.
Herrera's direct passing and forward runs caused havoc for the American side and resulted in him contributing to five of the seven goals United scored, and being awarded man of the match.
He also managed to do something that The Red Devils' lacklustre midfield really struggled doing last season, which was make an assist.
The box-to-box midfielder laid on two assists in the win; the first a pin-point pass from the halfway line to set Ashley Young on his way, and the second an outside-of-the-boot flick into Young's path again, before the winger finished with aplomb.
The Spaniard's two assists last night were more than the combined total made by Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley and Marouane Fellaini last season, which is a shocking statistic for players of their calibre.
In 33 appearances in all competition Michael Carrick failed to register a single assist for the club, with fellow countryman Tom Cleverley registering the same dire statistic in 20 appearances.
United's £27 million signing from Everton last summer, Fellaini, did manage to create one assist which was during the 3-1 home victory against Hull City.

The club's supporters will be relieved to see their star signing appearing to settle in to his new team and surroundings so quickly.
United have been crying out for a creative midfielder for years, and they finally might have found the man to fill the void left by the legendary Paul Scholes.
