Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno has his heart set on a move to Liverpool according to the Daily Mail.
The Reds have been trying to get a deal done for most of the summer but the La Liga side have refused to budge over their top end valuation on the defender of close to £20 million.
The Daily Mail claims Moreno had his heart set on a move to Anfield, suggesting the difficulty of a deal could cause Liverpool to pull the plug on attempts to sign him.
“Moreno had his heart set on a move to Anfield but Sevilla have been difficult to deal with and refused to budge from their valuation,” writes Dominic King.
Liverpool’s left-back options are limited as Brendan Rodgers hunts a new player in that position ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.
Ben Davies has completed a move to Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United paid big for Luke Shaw and Chelsea could be difficult over attempts from the Reds to sign Ryan Bertrand from Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool are well funded thanks to the sale of Luis Suarez and while the Mail suggests a deal could be difficult, it’s still more than possible.
Moreno is well suited to Liverpool’s style of play and is a young defender who would adhere to the work rate and team ethic ideals that Rodgers has done well to create during his time at the club.
Sevilla are in the driving seat because the player’s contract isn’t set to expire until the summer of 2018.
Therefore, they are entitled to ask for their top end valuation on the 22-year-old and are within their rights to retain him for their La Liga campaign if the Reds don’t hit that valuation.
With Liverpool running out of options, the club may just pay the fee Sevilla have asked for all along, otherwise fans could see more of Jon Flanagan playing down the left next season.
Do you think Moreno will complete a move to Liverpool?
