Spanish paper claims Chicharito has never been part of van Gaal's plans

Chicharito Interview

Marca has suggested the writing is on the wall for Javier Hernandez at Manchester United.

Spanish website Marca claims Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez was never part of Louis van Gaal’s plans at the club.

Originally left out of the pre-season USA tour group, Hernandez was later called onto the tour but Marca suggests Atletico Madrid are now eyeing a move for the Mexican with Diego Simeone keen to find a partner for Mario Mandzukic.

“From the first day Louis van Gaal set foot in Old Trafford, it was clear that Javier Hernandez was not in his plans,” reports Marca.

“Manager of Atletico Madrid Diego Simeone insists on strengthening his line of attack and finding a partner for Croatian Mario Mandzukic.”

The way van Gaal set Manchester United up for the friendly against LA Galaxy suggests that Chicharito should be in line for a few chances next season in a two man attack but it seems the Dutchman is unlikely to use him frequently, preferring Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck to the Mexican.

Van Gaal likes a 3-5-2 formation and has confirmed that United have been using that formation in pre-season training.

He made just six starts in the Premier League last season and only nine during Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge of the team.

Van Gaal’s arrival could have signalled a fresh start but it now seems likely that the Dutchman will allow him to leave if he can find the right club and the right offer comes in.

Inter Milan are reportedly a rival to Atletico Madrid for his signature but Hernandez may prefer a move to play under Simeone where the La Liga football will suit his style of play more.

Simeone has seen his La Liga winning team from last season effectively torn apart by the transfer market so Chicharito would have a real chance to play a high number of games in a very important campaign for the Spanish champions.

Do you think Chicharito will leave Manchester United?
