We bring you the latest news from Newcastle United, Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Hartlepool.

1) Pardew wants one more striker

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has told reporters he is not yet finished in the transfer window.

So far there have been six new arrivals at St James' Park, but the Newcastle manager hopes there could still be more to come.

Pardew had a difficult summer this time last year working alongside Joe Kinnear in the transfer market, but the 53-year-old appears to be having a better time liaising with newly appointed managing director Lee Charnley.

Pardew told The Gazette; "I've worked really well with Lee this summer,"

"We've talked every day, and we're going to do that until the end of the window. If anything that comes along works for us financially and, more importantly, on the football front, then we'll move."

It's expected that the Newcastle manager is in the market for a new striker, and the Magpies have been strongly linked with a move for Lyon froward Alexandre Lacazette.

2) Sunderland close in on Van Aanholt

Sunderland are reportedly close to signing Chelsea left-back Patrick Van Aanholt

The news broke last night that the Black Cats had agreed a fee with Chelsea for the 23-year-old, and were set to enter personal talks with the player immediately.

Sunderland fly out for their pre-season tour of Portugal today, and Gus Poyet is desperate to work with some new faces whilst he's out there.

Van Aanholt could link up with the squad before the end of the week should negotiations run smoothly.

3) Middlesborough target closer to exit

Middlesbrough target Danny Graham is edging closer to a Sunderland exit after being left out of Gus Poyet's squad for the club's pre-season tour of Portugal.

The 28-year-old striker spent the second half of last season on loan at the Riverside Stadium, and Aitor Karanka is keen to link up with Graham again this term.

It's thought that the Wearside club will allow the forward to leave for a fraction of the £5 million they paid for him in 2013, with some reports saying Graham is on the market for £1 million.

4) Maligned forward leaves Sunderland

Sunderland misfit Ignacio Scocco has completed a move to Newell's Old Boys.

The 29-year-old was one of three Argentinian's signed by Poyet in January, alongside Oscar Ustari and Santiago Vergini.

During his time on Wearside, Scocco made only six appearances for the Black Cats and failed to make a significant impact.

The striker returns to the team with which he began his career with Sunderland only recouping £2.1 million of the £3.2 million they paid to bring Scocco to the Stadium of Light earlier this year.

5) Cooper challenges players to prove themselves

Pools manager Colin Cooper has challenged his players to prove themselves, stating that there are 'places up for grabs' amongst his starting eleven.

The 47-year-old said; “There are places up for grabs all over the pitch,”

“The players still have to grasp the nettle and crack on."

Hartlepool begin will begin their League Two campaign away at Stevenage on the 9th of August.
