How missing out on Vidal should see United move for Verratti

Marco Verratti unveiled by PSG

Missing out on Arturo Vidal could have a silver lining for Manchester United.

Arturo Vidal has played down a potential move to Manchester United insisting that a deal to Manchester United is not done yet when was quizzed over his future at an airport.

The Chilean midfielder is thought to be one of Louis van Gaal’s priority transfers this summer, but with those plans set to fall through, they could aid United in pursuit of another deal.

Le10 Sport magazine suggests United are one of three clubs ready to bid big to try and sign Marco Verratti from French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

The other two clubs mentioned are Real Madrid and Juventus and United have a natural advantage over either.

Real Madrid have signed Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, both centrally based players, this summer which means should Verratti take a Real Madrid move, his chances of first team football are bleak.

Juventus have the calibre and cash to pull off a deal but it would be a more realistic and achievable deal if Vidal left, which would open up a squad gap for the Serie A champions to make the signing.

United have done good work in the transfer market to secure the futures of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera.

Herrera in particular was superb in the 7-0 friendly win against LA Galaxy but United’s midfield is still lacking something, which is why reports over another midfield signing persist.

What they have working against them is not having Champions League football to offer up on a plat right now.

However, they can counter that by guaranteeing talent like Verratti a greater consistency of first team football than if he took a move to Real Madrid or Juventus, simply because of their European status.

Ed Woodward has been very boastful in recent times about the financial strength United currently enjoy due to the commercialisation of the club, which certainly allows the blow of missing out on Vidal to be softened with interest in another player.

Would you be happy if missing out on Vidal meant a deal for Verratti?
