A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Friday morning.

Pepe Reina's future could remain unresolved up until the transfer deadline according to the Daily Telegraph, with Napoli keen on the Spaniard following a loan spell with the Serie A club last season.

Reina can leave for around £4 million according to the report but his wages of £100,000 a week, and Napoli feel a compromise can be reached but it is said Liverpool will invite other bids for Reina.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is in line for a new contract according to manager Brendan Rodgers.

Gerrard has 11 months to run on his current deal and Rodgers expects the 34-year-old to sign a new deal very soon, and Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo that he believes Gerrard still has a lot to offer.

He said: "For his own mind, I’m sure he will want it sorted out, absolutely. You never want to leave players with not too long to go on their contract.

“A lot has gone on at the club over the course of the summer. It is something I am sure will get sorted.

“I know that Steven can continue to play on beyond this season. I have always said that."

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has been commenting on trying to land Fabio Borini from Liverpool after he had a spell on loan at the Stadium of Light last season.

Poyet is quoted in the Daily Mail, saying: "I think we need to be honest. The more time that goes past, it looks to me like we have less chance.

"Some people think the opposite - the more players Liverpool sign, then there is more chance. Let's see who is right and wrong."
