Lamela after Toronto game: Something special could happen next season

Erik Lamela

Tottenham's Argentine star was discussing his match winning performance against MLS side Toronto FC.

It may have taken a bit of time, but Erik Lamela is finally showing signs of the undeniable talent he possesses.

The former Roma star played arguably his best game for the North London club, starring in the number ten role, and scoring two sweet left footed strikes in just 45 minutes.

Lamela's desire for the ball and effectiveness with it seemed much improved compared to his performances last season, and it seems that Spurs may be about to see just why Daniel Levy forked out a club record £30 million for him.

This followed a promising showing against Seattle just a few days earlier, his first action since the back injury that ruled him out of the end of last season and the World Cup in Brazil.

Importantly, Lamela himself was positive and happy with the Toronto performance, yet determined to put in the work to get even better before the season begins in earnest.

“I’m very happy, I played without any pain, I felt healthy and it was great to score twice,” Lamela told the club website.

“I’m conscious that it’s only the start of the season and I have to continue to work hard. Overall, it was a good performance.”

Spurs are now set to come up against their third opposition of the tour, taking on Chicago Fire on Saturday. But the North American trip has been a genuine positive for Lamela, who feels it has greatly aided team unity ahead of the Premier League season, a season the 22-year-old feels could be very special for those associated to the club.

“These matches are good competition for us and it’s a great way to get into a rhythm ahead of the Premier League,” he said.

“The Tour also gives us time to build a real chemistry in the squad and I feel something special could happen next season.”

Exciting words for all Spurs fans I'm sure you'll agree.

Is Lamela finally about to explode into form in the Premier League?
