Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger recently confirmed that he would not be going after any more centre forwards this summer. Despite Olivier Giroud being the only recognised centre forward at the club Wenger confirmed that no more would be sought, stating:
"Up front we don't need any more. It's not especially for numbers. We need a goalkeeper for sure and, after that, it depends on how our midfielders get through without injuries until the start of the season. Maybe at centre-back we'll still bring one in."
It seems that Wenger is willing to bank on the likes of Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott, Yaya Sanogo, Joel Campbell and new signing Alexis Sanchez to provide the cover up top - while another young centre forward might also have a say.
Chuba Akpom is a promising talent for whom loan spells did not work out last season. But he is the only striker to head to the USA for their pre-season tour with the others injured, resting after World Cup duty or, in Sanogo's case, disappeared off the face of the earth.
So Akpom has a real chance now of putting himself in the forefront of Wenger's mind ahead of the new campaign. And he has met a man this week who knows a thing or two about scoring goals for The Gunners.
Akpom posted a picture on his Twitter account today showing off the fact he had met club legend and record scorer Thierry Henry.
Perhaps he asked Thierry for a little bit of advice to get on Wenger's sweet side ahead of an interesting summer for the teenage striker.
Can Akpom force his way into the first-team fold?
