Roma have arrived in Denver for their pre-season friendly against Manchester United, but neither team's coach seems excited by the prospect.

The Champions Cup has kicked off and the next match will see Serie A runners-up Roma take on Manchester United in sweltering conditions.

AC Milan got off to a dreadful start to the competition with their first defeat of the Pippo Inzaghi era - a 3-0 loss to Greek side Olympiacos.

Roma, who have just beaten Liverpool 1-0 in Boston, got on a flight late last night for four and a half hours to Denver, Colorado.

The Giallorossi will take on Manchester United at Sports Authority Field in a match that will severely test both sides.

As well as dealing with high altitude, players will be facing temperatures of more than 30 degrees at kick-off time, which is 2.10pm local time.

The match has been scheduled for convenience to the European market, but as a result players will face inhospitable conditions.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is reportedly regarding the game as an inconvenience and the Corriere dello Sport believes that his Roma counterpart Rudi Garcia is also not keen on the fixture.

Roma's Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman, who has been frequently linked with Manchester United, didn't travel with the squad from Boston as he is still recovering from a long-term knee injury.

There are two pools in the Champions Cup. Pool A contains Manchester United, Real Madrid, Inter and Roma. Pool B has Liverpool, Manchester City, Olympiacos and AC Milan.

Games will take place in venues across the USA and Toronto in Canada and will lead up to a Championship Game between the winners of Pools A and B.
