Video analysis - what are Arsenal getting in £3m goalkeeper Ospina?

Nice goalkeeper David Ospina appears set for a move to Arsenal - but what are the Gunners getting for £3m?

The Colombian international, 25, impressed at the World Cup as Jose Pekerman's men were cruelly knocked out in the quarter finals by a robust and somewhat lucky Brazil side. The Nice goalkeeper unsurprisingly attracted interest from a number of sides after his World Cup displays, with AC Milan a notable team believed to be in the running.

However, he's just days away from completing a £3m move to Arsenal, so what are the Gunners getting for their money?

The clip here shows Ospina against Marseille, a game which Nice won 1-0 - in no small part to a stunning performance from Ospina between the sticks.

The first save we see comes from a well struck volley by Florian Thauvin, as Ospina gets down and reacts quickly to a shot coming in at some speed. Too often you see goalkeepers pushing the back out in the danger zone, but Ospina shows strong hands to push the ball around the post and allow his defence to regroup.

On the second stop, we Ospina move across his goal well, tracking the runner and completely blocking out and gap at his near post. Goalkeepers are always criticised for conceding at their near post, but Ospina gets himself in to position well, and then it's an easy save to turn the ball around the post.

Thirdly, we see Thauvin dancing his way through players before firing in a low shot, which Ospina again gets down to quickly, showing outstanding reactions - and again pushing the ball behind rather than back out. With so many bodies in front of him in the penalty area, this is a great save and another example of Ospina's good decision making.

The fourth save is arguably the most important. Marseille get a free header on goal inside the six yard box, and Ospina once again displays his quick reflexes to get the slightest of fingertips to the goalbound header to tip the ball over the crossbar. It's a little bit of a camera save, but he still had to make it.

Yet with most goalkeepers, there will be the odd mistake; the odd rush of blood. Marseille knock the ball into the box and Ospina seemingly over-pursues the ball as he tries to cut out the cross, which was a poor decision given the flight of the ball. Leaving a large area of his goal unattended, a better header from the Marseille attacker would've brought a last-gasp equaliser.

Something we didn't get to see here was Ospina's ability to come out and dominate his area. Despite being only 6ft tall, Ospina makes good decisions to come out and catch, as well as punch the ball away, and we saw this a number of times in Brazil this summer.

All in all, this gives Arsenal fans a taste of what Ospina has shown during his time with Nice and with Colombia at the World Cup too. There are plenty of other clips available on YouTube, but this game showed the very good and the questionable of the Arsenal-bound stopper, and if he can continue to impress as he has done, then Wojciech Szczesny could find himself displaced by the end of this season.
