Chelsea prospect Nathaniel Chalobah has been talking up Kenneth Omeruo.

Kenneth Omeruo has been sent out on loan to Middlesbrough this season, but still has every chance of realising his dream to become a Chelsea regular.

Another prospect who played alongside him on Teesside last season was Nathaniel Chalobah, and he has been praising the Nigerian international this weekend.

He told Chelsea's website: "Kenneth is a really good friend of mine. He’s one of the most down to earth people I know.

"On the pitch he’s an animal though! He’s so competitive and he’s a good person to be around and have on your team.

"He was at centre-half most of the time and I played in front of him in midfield. He is very solid. To have someone like him behind you – and when you have a good relationship off the pitch with him as well – makes your life easier."

That description embodies the type of confidence inspiring centre-half Chelsea need to one day take over from John Terry.

Omeruo is one of two Chelsea defenders out on loan already for the coming season, with Tomas Kalas at Hamburg.

The Nigerian international impressed at the World Cup, and a Premier League switch had seemed more likely than a return to Middlesbrough, but there he will be in familiar surroundings under a manager in Aitor Karanka who Jose Mourinho trusts.

He still has the time to progress and become a star at Chelsea, and Chalobah's words will inspire that he is just the type of dominant defender who can step up.

Will Omeruo go onto become a first team regular at Chelsea?
