Inter close on Manchester United striker, midfielder may be exchanged

Javier Hernandez

Inter are edging towards a deal for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez, which could see Fredy Guarin move the other way.

Inter have been chasing a striker since the start of June and Manchester United's Javier Hernandez seems to have become the main target.

The Nerazzurri struggled last season, fading out of the Italian title race at an early stage, and one major weakness was the lack of a reliable goal getter.

Owner Erik Thohir is ready to throw money at the problem, but many of Inter's top transfer objectives have been off the market.

Inter have been linked with Edin Dzeko, Stevan Jovetic and Fernando Torres, but none of the three appear to be realistic targets.

In recent weeks, Javier Hernandez has emerged as the most accessible option with his future at Old Trafford looking increasingly uncertain.

According to Tuttosport, Louis van Gaal doesn't expect Chicharito to feature in his first-team plans for next season and is looking to move him on.

The Turin-based newspaper claims that Inter chief Thohir met with Hernandez's agent in Washington and has the go-ahead from the player.

Inter and Manchester United have cordial relations and a deal could progress quickly, but Inter are said to need to sell Fredy Guarin first and he may appeal to the English club.

There is a possibility of a swap deal which may suit both sides, although it isn't quite clear how the two players' valuations compare.

Guarin was on the brink of joining Juventus in January but a deal fell through at the eleventh hour after protests from the fans.

While the Colombian midfielder is back in the fold, his commitment to the Inter cause is in question and the Serie A side seem determined to cash him in.
