Arsenal's current first-choice goalkeeper has welcomed a rival for his position to the club.
After much speculation, Arsenal finally confirmed that they had agreed a deal for Nice goalkeeper David Ospina this weekend.
The 25-year-old will move to the Gunners on a long-term deal for a fee believed to be in the region of £3million.
As well as posting a picture of Ospina, Szczesny wrote a brief message to the Colombian international that simply read, “David Ospina, welcome to Arsenal FC.”
It was short and sweet, but it was also interesting given that the two players will be vying for a starting spot next season and beyond.
Szczesny may have recently welcomed the competition for places, but will the good vibes remain if Ospina ousts him as Arsenal’s number one?
He certainly has the ability to, having shone for his country at this summer’s World Cup and having impressed during his time in Ligue 1.
Arsenal’s players will know they are all in it together; after all, that is the essence of a team
But there is still an element of friendly competition for places, and in Ospina, Szczesny will know he has a very talented rival with the likely intention of condemning him to a place on the bench.
Who would you rather see in goal for Arsenal: Szczesny or Ospina?
