Report: Roma have to lose one of Ljajic or Destro, Tottenham on alert

As Roma Graffiti

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Roma may have to sell either Adem Ljajic or Tottenham target striker Mattia Destro to balance the books.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly trying to tie up a deal for Roma star Mattia Destro and the latest reports suggest that the Italian club may have to agree a sale.

Destro enjoyed a superb 2013-14 campaign for the capital club and nearly made it into Italy's World Cup squad before being dropped when the preliminary squad was reduced.

The 23-year-old seems to just get better and better and has caught the attention of Tottenham, who have reportedly opened talks with Roma over the marksman.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Tottenham could find themselves in a strong bargaining position because Roma's finances are precariously poised.

The Italian newspaper states that Roma's big spending on midfielder Juan Iturbe and defender Davide Astori has seen the Giallorossi overstretch their wage budget.

It is suggested that Roma will have t cut back by selling off one of their assets with Destro and Adem Ljajic the most likely options.

Serbian attacking midfielder Ljajic is seen as a rising star and he has stressed his desire to fight for a first-team place at Roma, but last season's Serie A runners-up may instead trade him in to relieve their financial concerns.

Tottenham may see Roma's current situation as encouragement in their assault on Destro and it looks likely that they could land their man if the price is right.

Is Mattia Destro the signing Tottenham need?
