Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes Cesc Fabregas’ move to Chelsea resulted in good business all-round.

New Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas has been one of the most talked-about players this summer following his £27million move to West London.

The deal came somewhat as a surprise to many as rumours circled that a return to former club Arsenal was looking increasingly likely.

The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, however, reportedly pulled out of a deal to sign Arsenal’s former skipper and Fabregas was then convinced of a Chelsea move by popular coach Jose Mourinho.

Whilst there remains doubts over the amount paid for the Spanish international and his likely role in Chelsea’s starting XI, one man who believes the move suits all parties is Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.

“It has been good for both parties. It was a great quantity of money for Barcelona and I believe that Cesc is going to feel very important there.” He said, quoted by the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.

A key component of the former Barcelona youth product’s move to Stamford Bridge is his need to feel important and valued at the club.

Throughout last season Fabregas was often used as a scapegoat for poor Barcelona performances by the Catalan faithful and a number of jeers and boos could be heard directed his way.

Online polls further enhanced the feeling that he was no longer wanted by the Catalan outfit as supporters increasingly voted in favour of selling him his summer.
