The Gunners have looked to build on their first trophy win in nine years by signing a number of players following that 3-2 FA Cup final win over Hull City in May. Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez was snapped up in a £32m deal, and the arrivals have continued as right backs Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers have signed from Newcastle United and Southampton respectively, whilst goalkeeper David Ospina has also joined from Nice.
A centre back and a defensive midfielder are now likely to be targeted, but Gunners fans are still hoping and praying for a new centre forward to join the club. A deal for QPR's Loic Remy collapsed, but since then, Arsene Wenger has made it clear that he won't be looking to sign another striker.
That leaves him with just Olivier Giroud - who had an up and down campaign last season - and Yaya Sanogo as recognised centre forwards, even if the likes of Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott and Sanchez can play there if needed. Youngster Afobe isn't expected to be in the picture, and the 21-year-old says he's looking for a loan deal.
"For the first couple of weeks [of pre-season] I was with the first team and it has been going well," said Afobe. "Now I’m looking to go out on loan. I want to play week-in, week-out and have a first full season without injuries Hopefully something will be done soon but, if not, I will keep working hard and keep training with the under-21s or the first team."
Afobe scored twice in Arsenal's 5-1 win over Harrow Borough this weekend, and after loan spells with Huddersfield, Reading, Bolton, Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday, he's looking to impress Wenger ahead of the new season. With just two recognised centre forwards available, Afobe needs to continue to score in pre-season to put himself in Wenger's thinking - and if he can do that, then he may just find himself in the first team plans rather than out on loan again.
