Gunners legend Thierry Henry gives his verdict on Arsenal's title hopes

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes the club are making positives steps towards a title challenge with their latest transfer dealings.

Having faced Arsenal in Saturday’s friendly match with his New York Red Bulls side, Gunners legend Thierry Henry believes his former club are poised to challenge for the title this season.

After winning the FA Cup last season to claim their first piece of silverware since 2005, Arsenal have spent around £65million so far this summer, bringing in Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, David Ospina and, most recently, Calum Chambers, as they bid to improve upon 2013/14’s fourth-place finish.

With those additions, combined with the momentum from last season’s trophy success, the club’s all-time leading-scorer sees no reason why they should not be right up there in the battle for the Premier League, especially with the guidance of Arsene Wenger from the sidelines.

‘I can be sitting here and talking to you about what should be done but, at the end of the day, it’s down to the boss,’ he cautioned, when speaking to ESPN.

‘But you would like to think that, with the players that they’ve bought, things are going to be better in the league and also with what they’ve done last year, winning the FA Cup – that’s going to help build momentum towards winning the league.

‘As an Arsenal fan, I want to see Sanchez scoring goals, and Giroud and the team playing well, but they have a great guy in charge to help the team do that. Every time we talk about Arsenal the sentence is always “In Arsene we trust”, and hopefully he can work his magic.’

Wenger has certainly made some positive moves in the transfer window thus far and, with rumours that a potential deal for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira could be back on, this summer could turn out to be an even more productive one for the club.

However, with their rivals all spending big, too, the task of claiming another top-four finish, let alone mounting a serious title challenge, will prove far from straightforward, even with a newly-bolstered squad.
