Spurs to hold talks with Portuguese international tomorrow - report

Tottenham Hotspur will meet with Miguel Lopes ahead of a propose move, which could allow Kyle Naughton to complete a transfer to Swansea City.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to hold talks with Sporting Lisbon defender Miguel Lopes, according to reports.

Lopes has been lined up as a potential replacement for Kyle Naughton by Spurs, who appears to be on the verge of a move to Swansea.

Lopes’s first team chances are likely to be limited in his first season, but the lack of cover in the Spurs defence has meant that Mauricio Pochettino is keen to seek further additions.

Ben Davies has already been added to a backline that was particularly porous last season, and will be Spurs’s first choice left-back for their upcoming campaign, but the thought is that Lopes can provide competition for Kyle Walker for the right-back berth.

The Portuguese international spent last season out on loan at Lyon, where he made 14 appearances, but it is thought that he could be set for a move away from Sporting on a permanent basis this summer.

Talks between his agent and Tottenham are set to take place tomorrow, with Spurs keen on doing a deal as quickly as possible.

The 27-year-old has spent most of his career playing in Portugal, and he has represented many of the top clubs in his homeland, but his ability to adapt to life in a foreign country last season will no doubt have encouraged Spurs to make a move.

Lopes was largely utilised as a squad player for Lyon last year, but he did well enough when on the pitch to encourage Pochettino to make a bid for him during the summer.

The funding for the transfer is likely to be provided by the sale of Naughton, who Spurs are keen on cashing in on.

The London club feel that his chances of breaking into their first-team are limited due to others being ahead of him in the pecking order in his favoured position of right-back and they have identified Danny Rose as a better option at left-back, offering him a new contract.

It means that Naughton’s deal is set to be completed in the near future – with Swansea making an official bid for the youngster yesterday.

Should Naughton be allowed to leave the club?
