Liverpool defeated Olympiakos 1-0 at the Soldier Field, Chicago in a pre-season friendly that sees their International Champions Cup begin strongly.

Liverpool edged Olympiakos by a 1-0 score at Chicago's Soldier Field on Sunday, July 27 by virtue of an early Raheem Sterling goal.

The club were extremely well-supported State-side as a sea of red scarves emblazoned various stands and the Reds supporters may well have gotten an early glimpse of a stand-out talent in the coming season as Lazar Markovic delighted the crowd with dribbling, defender-beating runs.

Markovic, a £20 million signing from Benfica, joined Emre Can as a summer recruit and the former Bundesliga operator put in a good shift in his usual box-to-box role.

Replacing Sterling, talented prospect Jordon Ibe made a 15-minute cameo appearance but made good contributions with his intelligent runs off the ball.

While the scoreline may not have been as heavy as some fans will have hoped for, the performance is what mattered and Brendan Rodgers oversaw a good start in the International Champions Cup - a pre-season tournament that sees them take on fellow Premier League side Manchester City next, on Wednesday, ahead of a battle with AC Milan on Saturday.
