How selling Kagawa back to Dortmund could help United sign Reus

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly taking another look at re-signing Shinji Kagawa from Manchester United.

The Independent has suggested Borussia Dortmund are interested in taking another look at the possibility of re-signing Shinji Kagawa from Manchester United, which could aid them in attempts to sign Marco Reus next summer.

Kagawa has endured a frustrating time at Old Trafford since he originally moved from BVB and Jurgen Klopp is periodically linked with taking the Japanese star back to Germany.

German tabloid Bild has suggested today that BVB could be open to doing a €35 million deal for Marco Reus next summer, something which will be more possible should Kagawa head back to Dortmund.

It’s more possible because as central midfielders, Reus and Kagawa are very similar players. They’re both slender players, good in possession and able to move the ball through the final third of the opponent’s half quickly.

Snapping up Kagawa on a deal now would bypass the problem for Klopp of having to find a replacement for Reus next summer of BVB are forced into accepting a huge offer from United or any other side interested in him.

Klopp has spoke frequently over the frustration he feels at having to watch Kagawa consistently used out of position at United, commenting that he’s one of the best central players with an eye for goal that he’s ever seen.

He made just five appearances as an attacking midfielder through the middle of Manchester United’s team next season and the presence of Juan Mata and Ander Herrera suggests that figure is unlikely to change under Louis van Gaal.

Should Kagawa head back to BVB it would take time for him to bed back into the side and German football.

Therefore it’s significant that Dortmund are likely to retain Reus for the coming season, but should Kagawa find his best form back at Dortmund, there’s no reason United can’t dangle a huge carrot in front of BVB for their German star.

Do you think Kagawa will leave United this summer?
