Clichy seems pleased with the signing of player who he spent time at Arsenal with.
Clichy, also formerly of Arsenal, isn't shy in talking up a player who he spent time with at the Emirates Stadium, and is confident his fellow Frenchman will be a hit with the City fans.
He's quoted in the Manchester Evening News, saying: "I played with him for Arsenal and the national team. As a player, I think he was a great signing. Of course he was free, so that’s a big thing. To sign a player like him on the free is something amazing.
"I think we have probably one of the best right backs in the last five years since he joined Arsenal. He’s strong, he’s a great defender. He’s good going forward. That’s the kind of player you look for as a club, and he’s old enough to bring some experience. I don’t want to say too much because he’s a good friend, but it’s a great signing and I’m sure the fans are waiting for him to put the shirt on."
Sagna is going to face stiff competition from another one of the league's best right-backs in Pablo Zabaleta, who has been a key part of the City side in both of the Premier League title triumphs, but given the amount of games that City will be expected to play, both right-backs are likely to get their opportunity to impress.
The 31-year-old arrived in the Premier League in 2007 and has played in the Champions League for every season he was at the Gunners, as well as being part of the side that won the FA Cup last season - so there is proven pedigree on the domestic and European front.
There is a chance that Sagna could line up against his old club in the Community Shield on August 10 at Wembley, with the possibility of Clichy playing a part on the opposite flank.
Will Sagna prove to be a good signing for Man City?
